good morning, my darlings! yesterday was such an exciting day for us because we went to pick up daisy from my parents' house to bring her home to ours! she's been staying there due to our apartment not being pet-friendly, but our landlords recently decided to let us have her here. best news ever! in honor of her homecoming i decided to get nice and gussied up and this vintage orange car coat from my friend nicole's shop new to you was just the thing i needed to make the outfit amazing.

thrifty thursday!

a few days ago i was at savers (love that place!) and found a million great things but wasn't totally in love with anything (with the exception of a great t-shirt, circle sweater and a cashmere j.crew sweater for the dream). on my way to the registers i spied with my little eye something absolutely unlike anything i'd ever seen... and perfect for alex. it feels like lambskin and yes, my loves, that is a chiffon back panel and chiffon sleeves! for $4.99 i couldn't resist...

what we wore - matthew gray gubler slumber party

a couple of months ago my friends nicole, bee and i went to see matthew gray gubler (of criminal minds fame and wes anderson beginnings) speak at unh. his lecture was "pajama party" themed! we didn't want to wear pj pants that say PINK on the bum or short shorts (not that we'd wear them anyway) so we opted for vintage nightgowns and fur. enjoy!

thrifty thursday!

yesterday morning i went to the thrift shop to wander around, since i had the day off and the dream had to work. i never have any expectations when i go thrifting... i actually really just like walking around and looking at all of the great stuff! i found an avocado colored sunbeam stand mixer (if i didn't already have a baby pink kitchenaid stand mixer that thing would have surely been mine!), a mustard yellow blender, a bunch of old sewing machines and a gorgeous black coach turnlock briefcase. so many goodies!

what i couldn't resist buying were two lovely porcelain busts i found as i was walking out the door... they're so precious and the "favorites" section of my etsy is filled with similar pairs! i was so happy to have found both of the busts together that i simply couldn't pass them up.

closet tour - marissa's statement collection

hello, hello, my little peaches! here's another new style feature - i'm calling this one a closet tour! you know, like a house tour but instead of documenting the inside of someone's home i'll be documenting the inside of someone's closet! all of the yummy goodies that make me envious of my very stylish friends' wardrobes... and i couldn't think of anyone better suited to be my first tour-esse than marissa!

for as long as i've known her, marissa has had a very strong sense of personal style that is completely all her own. she is so beautiful and carries herself with such confidence that it's difficult to imagine her not turning heads, and her incredible wardrobe is stocked full of bold statement pieces that she pulls off in ways i feel no one else could. looking into her closet is like peeking into my favorite boutique - i just want to sit around and play dress up with all of her magical clothes!

marissa's collection of clothing ranges from pieces she has found at tjmaxx for $5 to pieces bearing far heftier price tags from small boutiques. everything she owns - from her jeans to her leather jackets (she has an impressive collection of them!), from her 5" spiked heels (see below) to her perfectly worn-in frye boots - is unique and classic, and each piece is absolutely and completely marissa.

yesterday was a very exciting day for me - i got my first professional haircut in a salon since my beautiful mermaid hair was chopped off into a very dramatic asymmetrical 'do... TWO YEARS AGO! my lovely friend jess chopped it and did an amazing job - more on that in another post. for now, here's what i wore...

dreamy boutique - honeypot in asheville, nc

hello everyone! how is vacation? vacation is AMAZING! it was raining last night so we went out for bbq dinner at luella's which was so super delicious! i had the chopped pork bbq sandwich with fried okra and mac&cheese... yum!

today marissa had to work and it was 90 degrees outside! it has been raining and/or cold in new hampshire for the past week(ish), so i jumped on the chance to soak up some sun (with plenty of spf slathered on, of course) and explore downtown asheville!

while wandering around downtown i walked into a totally adorable vintage and high-end consignment shop called honeypot. they have such amazing inventory... among their many delightful treasures i found teal sequined miu miu maryjanes (not in my size OF COURSE), an orange leather handbag that i couldn't find the price tag on (boooo!) and a bunch of plaid shirts that i'm tempted to go back and snag for the dreamboat. so many beautiful things and the merchandising was impeccable! the manager there was nice enough to let me snap some photos... enjoy!

i'm so in love with everything in this shop! if you're ever in asheville, pop in and visit - they're so sweet!

thrifty thursday!

i'm in asheville, but last week i had some seriously great luck at the local thrift stores! i found some really lovely stuff for our home. we currently live with roommates in a shared apartment, so the amount of decorating we can do to make the place ours is limited. hopefully by the end of summer(ish) we'll find our own place and i'll be able to make it a home, but until then i'm collecting bits and pieces so that it's not a giant rush when we move to fill an empty space.

i can't believe i found the beautiful mersman table that all of my other finds are resting on for a mere $9.99 - it was an obvious and definite yes. along with it, i found a beatrix potter portrait of jeremy fisher (from the tale of jeremy fisher) in a pale pink frame for $.99, two vintage glass bottles for $2.99 each, a pair of vintage eyeglasses for $.99 (i'm going to have the lenses replaced with pink uv lenses!), a little wooden heart necklace for $.99, a little ceramic fawn book-end for $1.99, a vintage tool box for $2.99 and a needlework panel for $.99. i also found a huge remnant of rust colored microsuede fabric (super super soft) to recover the dining chairs i bought for us at a thrift store a while back (they're currently a dark brown with bright yellow velvet seats, which is nice, but i think painting them cream and reupholstering with this rust fabric will be a fantastic upgrade)! take a peek...

my second thrift shop stop brought me even more success! i found a gorgeous vintage mustard tablecloth with 6 matching napkins - all of which have adorable lace trim. the napkins were $.99 each and the tablecloth was $2.99. along with those, i found a pretty ceramic vase for $4.99, two pink glass teacups for $.99 each and two rose tea saucers for $.99 each... so fun!

i'm excited about the idea of having a crisp white or cream kitchen with mustard, pink and avocado green accents. i can't wait! have any of you found any great thrift finds lately?
