i'm not quite sure where to start with this, although i think it's always best to start at the beginning... i want to keep it short so we don't get any TLDRs up in this piece... almost exactly 2 years ago i had long mermaid hair... see below:
silly face but you get the idea
it was beautiful and i loved it very much but my ends were F-R-I-E-D so i went to get it trimmed at a salon which (and by a stylist who) will remain nameless. the following things happened: 1 my stylist was running about 30 minutes behind when i got there and offered me some wine while i waited 2 i drank 3 glasses of wine while i waited because i was extremely nervous (i hadn't been to her before) 3 she asked my how i felt about asymmetrical haircuts and 4 since i was drunk i apparently decided i loved them.
needless to say, i ended up losing about 12" of hair on one side and about 6" of hair on the other (yes, my hair was 6" different in length on either side of my head) and i was so sad. i went home and chopped off the longer side so that they weren't so dramatically different in length, which left me with the following 'do:
you can tell by my face how excited i was...
it's not hard to imagine, then, that it took me two years to get past my fear of having my hair cut in a salon by a professional after that experience. in fact, i have never really had a GOOD experience having my hair cut by a stylist. that's where jess comes in.
about six months ago i met jess by chance as she wandered into my shop about ten minutes before closing time. i was so excited when she gave me full creative freedom in dressing her - not only is she gorgeous but she has amazing style! she quickly became one of my absolute favorite customers and quite simply one of my favorite people.
i found out through talking to jessica at my shop that she's a stylist at 6 degrees salon on bow street in portsmouth. it was quickly decided that she was going to cut my hair for me... as soon as i was ready.
it took about 4 months of mental prepping (and growing my hair out after my friend elissa evened it out for me!) for me to feel secure enough to go into the salon and get my hurr did, as it were... and i couldn't have had a better experience. everything was fantastic... i have supremely thick hair (jessica affectionately referred to it as "porn star hair") and a pretty finicky scalp (due to a medical condition) and i felt relaxed and confident with her taming my mane.
she completely renewed my faith in the salon system. she listened to what i said when i told her that my ultimate goal is to grow my hair out - in fact, when she was done, she showed me the back via mirror tricks and said "this cut is going to grow out so nicely!"... she was just all-around amazing. i owe her so much, and will be going back to her religiously to keep my firey tresses healthy and beautiful... just like her...
