dreamy outfit - plus perfection

hello, my sweets! my beautiful friend bee asked me to do a style feature based around plus-sized clothing. she also suggested that i compose an outfit that i would dress her in (she has amazing style and is so gorgeous!) and i was so happy to be able to do it! i put together a number of really cute outfits and (just like the mama-to-be style that will continue over the next few months) i'll be posting new plus outfits every so often, too.

 

i think it's a shame that the fashion industry still mainly caters to tiny women but there are definitely more options now than ever in plus sizes. i love the idea of styling outfits for people whose bodies aren't <i>typical</i> or cookie cutter. petite women, plus women, curvy women (hello, body!), pregnant women (okay maybe that's some kind of typical?) - everyone should feel beautiful in their own skin. we all have our own issues with our bodies (hello, mainstream media!) but it is important to love ourselves as much as we can for as long as we can.

dreamy outfit - mama (& mama-to-be) style!

greetings and salutations! my lovely and talented friend jess is expecting her second little peanut and asked if i would do some style features for mamas-to-be. she's not too far along so i thought i'd start it off with an outfit that would work for her now, composed of pieces which can transition into fall and work for her post-pregnancy.

we actually carry this dress in my shop and let me tell you - it is one of the easiest and sexiest dresses ever! we carried it in black but i totally love this neutral tone. it has a built-in-bra which is perfect for jess right now as she'll have some extra support for her girls and just enough of a low neckline to show them off! it's made from a heavier weight jersey which feels super comfortable and makes it an amazing piece to wear through the fall, and the draping in the front makes it a perfect dress to wear pretty far along into her pregnancy.

i really love this outfit and i can totally see jess rocking it. you may remember the sandals from marissa's closet tour - she loved them and i think the stretchy fabric upper is perfect for swelling feet (although they still look super cute and easy). i'll be posting more mama-to-be style on this thing in the coming months, too. i hope you liked this one!

dreamy outfit - j brand "maria" high-rise skinny jeans!

ohhhhhhhhhh boy, sugarsnaps... it's time to sit down. i am over the moon for these j brand skinny high-rise jeans! i found them first via ebay (and, as it turns out, i totally missed the boat on this one because apparently our portland store had this jean at one point! oh, the humanity!) and am trying desperately to get my hands on a pair because, well, we all know how i love a good high-rise jean and for as much as i love a good wide leg, i love a good skinny even more. i decided that i'd put an outfit together based around this piece that i am SO lusting after at the moment. i hope you all love it as much as i do!

hello, dreamy dreamers! my friend casey recently asked me to help her style an anthropologie dress that she bought to wear to a friend's wedding next month. i love love love the dress and it was so easy to find great pieces to pair it with! i'm not sure if she'll end up taking any or all of my advice, but i had fun doing it just the same. enjoy!

i asked casey when & where the wedding is going to be held so i could get an idea of what kinds of accessories would be appropriate. for instance, a daytime wedding that's relatively casual (as she described) calls for totally different accessories than a more formal, evening wedding would. i opted for bright nail colors (always super fun) to pull from the tones of the dress, a cropped cardigan in case the reception gets chilly and left the rest of the accessories neutral and fun. i figure if you're young and adorable you should flaunt it! how would you have accessorised this dress?

the things i love about this for her look are as follows: mustard paired with navy is one of my favorite color combinations at the moment. i can't even handle a sweet, feminine dress paired with oxfords or booties - it's an impossibly perfect coupling. i love the raw edged silk on the bodice of the dress paired with big costume jewels and the geometric bib necklace plays perfectly against the gentle shawl collar of the cardigan.

the things i love about this for him look are as follows: brown and blue paired together, the casual feel of a gingham linen shirt and jeans balancing the formality of both a vest and suit jacket. topsiders are such a wonderful summer shoe and i love the idea of lacing them with colored laces. also, can i just say - these are the jeans that my dreamboat actually wears and dang do they make his cakes look fantastic!

closet tour - marissa's statement collection

hello, hello, my little peaches! here's another new style feature - i'm calling this one a closet tour! you know, like a house tour but instead of documenting the inside of someone's home i'll be documenting the inside of someone's closet! all of the yummy goodies that make me envious of my very stylish friends' wardrobes... and i couldn't think of anyone better suited to be my first tour-esse than marissa!

for as long as i've known her, marissa has had a very strong sense of personal style that is completely all her own. she is so beautiful and carries herself with such confidence that it's difficult to imagine her not turning heads, and her incredible wardrobe is stocked full of bold statement pieces that she pulls off in ways i feel no one else could. looking into her closet is like peeking into my favorite boutique - i just want to sit around and play dress up with all of her magical clothes!

marissa's collection of clothing ranges from pieces she has found at tjmaxx for $5 to pieces bearing far heftier price tags from small boutiques. everything she owns - from her jeans to her leather jackets (she has an impressive collection of them!), from her 5" spiked heels (see below) to her perfectly worn-in frye boots - is unique and classic, and each piece is absolutely and completely marissa.
